FO: Mini Purl Ridge Scarf

Here is another small project I knit for my daughter.

She loves it and wore it right away! Success!

It is a modified version of the Purl Ridge Scarf from Stephen West. It is knitted with yarn from the Alpagas de la Petite Côte.

The scarf rolled quite a bit while I was knitting it but after blocking it, it is all resolved. Good news!

FO: Fond of You

Hello! 

I can't believe that my last post was in April. Time flies. And this is going to be a short post since I want to continue putting my FOs here but at the same time, I prefer knitting to writing long posts :)

So, last summer, I've decided to knit a sweater to my daughter who definitely enjoy knitted garments. But this one, not so much unfortunately. I don't know why. She was really happy the whole time I've knitted it for her and when it was completed, she didn't want to wear it. Maybe this year, who knows!

Here it is. It was a nice and quick knit. I loved the color. I've based it on the pattern Fond of You. However, since the yarn is already quite textured, I've knitted it in stockinette and also, my daughter insisted that it should have short sleeves.

FO: Simple House Slippers

Bonjour!

Spring has finally arrived in the Montreal area. It is about time! Summer is my favorite season.

This winter, I have finished my Simple House Slippers. They are knitted with some gorgeous red Icelandic wool. A good high school friend thought about me during her trip in Iceland. When she visited me after many years of not seeing each other, she gave it to me. It was a lovely surprise!

I don't know if I will wear them much. I will most likely keep them for when visitors come.

Since then, I have started again this sweater for my daughter. The result was a little tight so I switched to larger needles and it is much better. It is based on the pattern Fond of you but it will be quite different in the end as I am not making the stripes, nor the stitch pattern and my daughter says that if it a summer sweater, it has to have short sleeves. So, be it :) If all goes well, it should be ready for the summer as it is mindless knitting and no sleeves! 

 

What are your summer projects? I'm thinking of casting on a Cadence to use some yarn my mom gave me. It would be for the next winter.

Friendship and a FO!

Friendship is one of the best thing in life. When you add knitting to it, it just can get better :) Yesterday, a group of us met for a brunch and a cowl exchange. It's been the most pleasant encounter (as always)! And to make it even better, I think that a new tradition is born: make an exchange of a knitting item every Valentine's Day. Doesn't it sound like a good plan?

The pattern is Getting Warmer by Espace Tricot. A pattern that I was considering knitting myself :) Thanks Michèle!

Here is the pattern I chose to knit for my friend Chantal:

This one is Mira's Cowl by Mira Cole. It is a pattern that is very nice to knit and simple. This is what I need to knit right now. It was very relaxing.

Of course, for this exchange, I wanted to knit from my stash. I chose the beautiful Red Label Cash Silk Single by Tanis Fiber Arts in the Smoke colorway (not currently available) that I had since 2012. However, I've decided to knit it doubled with some incredibly soft Shibui Knits Silk Cloud. It is a very good combination and makes for a very interesting result (soft, soft, soft... and still so light). However, for some reason, we miscalculated the amount needed and I bought two skeins of Silk Cloud which means one of the two is now in my stash (unused) and my stash is still the same as before! Does it also happen to you when you try to knit from your stash?

 

Finally, I dared the following while knitting this project. Believe it or not, I've been knitting since 2006 and I have never done this. When I started knitting, I remember reading about this basic technique in books and thought it seemed so complicated and risky. Hmmm, not difficult at all and saves so much time. I'm so glad I tried it...

FO: Multnomah

Hello! How are you?  I hope you have all had a wonderful summer. I love summer!

There hasn't been much knitting for me during the nice season, except I did a KAL: Le KAL de l'été (the Summer KAL in French) which was organized by Colorista.  Colorista is a new local hand dyer and she creates colorways that are definitely beautiful. They look so cozy. I knit my daughter's Peppa Scarf last winter with it and I look forward to knit with her yarns again.

This being said, the KAL was for fun and we didn't need to use Colorista yarn to participate. So, I used some yarn that I had in my stash. I really want to empty my stash, if that is possible, and never buy again any yarn that I am not going to knit right away. That's me!  I think it is possible, as you can see...

And the pattern I chose has been in my queue for years. It is Multnomah. It is a very easy pattern to follow. I haven't made any mods, except I knitted it with light fingering with the exact gauge. I also chose this pattern because it is a very small shawl (the project for the KAL needed to be a shawl) and honestly, I was not sure that I could knit a shawl in two months (July and August). So, it was realistic and I made it.  I was glad that I was on vacation at the end of August though :)

FO: Not Resisting Hat - Small version

Hello!  How are you?  How is your spring so far?  Mine is not bad at all as I am always excited when summer is just around the corner. 

But before that, I'll just mention my last knit of the winter. As soon as I've finished my Not Resisting Hat with stash and leftover yarn (and still had leftovers), I've casted on for a mini version for my daughter. It was a fast knit! I've measured her head and adapted the pattern accordingly. When she tried it on, it was fitting perfectly! And look at that smile!

So, for a few days, there was nothing on the needles. On Sunday, I casted on for the Simple House Slippers. The idea came from the very inspirational podcast by Espace Tricot. They have such lovely samples and they are based in Montreal.  Every time I went to their store, I've loved it. They are very good at giving advices and the store is just beautiful with a great variety of yarns! 

We will see how many pairs can be made with one skein!

Then, for Easter, we went to visit my parents and my mom showed me some yarn that she has and will not use. I chose the following. Here is what I plan to make with each one - maybe I'll change my mind :)

With these 745 meters of Phildar Castel (I believe it is discontinued), I plan to make Cascade in size 4T.

With these 280 meters of Coton Fifty, I'd like to knit a little Blue Sea Beach (12 m will be the most likely size with the amount of yarn available). This will be a great baby shower gift!

And finally, with these 560 meters of Ondine (also discontinued), I think it would be pretty as a Fond of You in size 6 (if my calculations are good).

So, this is what I have in mind for the near (or not so near) future. Maybe I will knit them in that order, maybe  not!

It's winter!

And I who thought that I had finished my hat too late to wear it this winter! Think again! Winter is not over yet!

But cold ears are gone now that I have knitted my very first tuque for myself! This one I keep!

I haven't washed it yet either. I'm always a bit scared that the size is going to change or the colors will be altered.

I've already made my calculations to knit a mini version for my daughter with the remaining yarn.

And since there will be more yarn left at the end, I may add some pom-poms...

FO: Peppa Scarf

Happy New Year!  I hope that 2017 is treating you well so far! I'm doing good. It's just that... time flies!

Last December, I've started a scarf for my daughter.  I bought the yarn from a new independent dyer who also happen to be a friend in my knitting group.  On Facebook, you may follow her as Colorista. The yarn I bought from her is really soft and the colors were amazing!  I recommend it!

Also, for the first time, I've knitted something without a pattern. I know, a scarf is just a scarf but still, I'm quite proud of myself. I searched for a simple scarf pattern for a baby/toddler on Ravelry and I was not able to find one I liked (maybe there are just too many patterns on Ravelry).  Just to know how many stitches to cast on and how long I should make it.  So, I've decided to write it down and share with anyone who does like to simply follow a pattern, no matter how simple the knitting is.

I have to say I really like it.  It is pretty and practical, soft and warm! I named it the Peppa Scarf if you would like to look for it on Ravelry!

FO: Hedgerow #2

Hi all!

My first and maybe last FO of 2016.  Life is going fast!  These socks are made for my sister and I wanted her to have them before the end of the year.

It started pretty well.  In June, I was already turning the heel of the second sock.  I'm a perfectionist most of the time and... I wasn't happy with how different the two heels were when side to side.  I could only imagine how the toes would end differently too - when I so carefully started the second sock with the same colors as the first one.  So I had to tink :)  That's fine!  I almost love it as much as knitting, knowing that I will be satisfied in the end.

Towards the end of the project, I was no longer able to access the pattern.  Fortunately, I had a printed copy from the first ones I made.  That's too bad because I think it is a great pattern.

An update and some yarn for one of you :)

Here is a little blog update :)

First, I have something to give away. I've always thought that if I reach 50 followers on my blog, I would give a skein of yarn to one of you.  Then, I've reached 50 and above but since I almost never update my blog now or write really short posts, it is dropping, hi hi  :)  So, before it goes under 50, I thought I would hurry up and go ahead :)

I'd like to give away the extra skein of yarn that I haven't used to knit the Baby Chalice Blanket (see details on this project page). Also, I wanted to show you my progress on my sister's socks!  It is fun to knit.  I really like Biscotte & Cie self-stripping yarns.  The pattern is the Hedgerow Socks.  This is the second pair that I knit.  I was not sure if the pattern would go well with stripes but I think it actually do!

It is a pleasure to knit them.  The proof is that they are knitting up pretty quickly. I hope you are also enjoying what you currently have on your needles!

FO: Easy Peasy Newborn Sock Hat

It's the second time I make this pattern because I think it is incredibly cute with the little i-cord at the top!  No mods, just fun!

FO: Aviatrix Hat

My first FO of 2016!  Will there be more in 2016?  We will see...  My next objective is to knit my sister the pair of socks that she chose the pattern and yarn for last year.  She's been hinting for quite a while that she would like me to knit some socks for her :)  I hope she can have them next Christmas!

I've had the Aviatrix Hat in my queue for a long time!  I finally bought it as I thought my Manos del Uruguay leftover yarn would look nice in it! But then, I realize that it was too small for my daughter. I was getting ready to start it again in a larger size when...

... I got a few invations on Facebook to join 25 000 tuques!  A "tuque" is a winter hat in French. This is a super cool project that has gathered a lot of knitters in the province of Quebec (the project was initiated in Montreal) but also everywhere in the world to knit a hat for all the Syrian refugees that have and will arrive in Canada during the awful war that is ravaging their country.  In Canada, every newborn is welcomed into the world by receiving a little knitted hat to stay warm.  Local knitters provide them to the hospitals.  My daughter received one when she was born!  All knitters who knit a hat have to attach a personalized message.  And it works so well so far that they are talking about continuing it for all people who arrive in Canada!  Everyone thinks it is a great and very human gesture!  Those people are like you and I.  They wish to live in peace and give that gift to their children.  I'm sure you can join whereever you come from!

All of this to say that this hat will go to a little Syrian boy or girl.  So touching... And I will give a few other hats I've knitted but kept in a drawer.

Oh, one funny fact.  The Musée McCord in Montreal is hosting some events.  Visitors can see the knitted hats that are deposited at this museum.  I've read somewhere that someone said that these hats could not be hand knitted because they were so beautiful :)  I thought it was really funny!

OK, enough about that.  You can see my project page on Ravelry for more details.  Basically, I chose a color very similar to the pattern main picture and did not make any modifications.  When you like a pattern, you just like the pattern :) The pattern is well written and it is interesting to see how it turns out.

Finally, I also finished the Easy Peasy Newborn Sock Hat today but it was too late to take a picture outside.  It will be in a separate post!

No FO :)

It's been a while since I posted without having an actual FO to show.  That was before my daughter was born.  Lately, I've had a little more time to knit.  Not that much more time but maybe I will also have more time to blog!

I'm not saying this is going to be a long post!  I still have to get up early tomorrow morning :)

So, recently, one of my high school friend visited me.  Last year, she went to Iceland and as she knew I love to knit, she bought me a beautiful skein of yarn!  I have no idea what it will become - probably a winter accessory - but I really like it.  Thank you so much Isabelle (she is not even a knitter and we don't see each other very often either)!

Then, last year, I gave away all my yarn leftovers to a lovely lady in Alberta.  I was really relieved because I do not like to keep things that I don't use.  In that same order of idea, I also try to knit all my yarn.  This is why I started the two following projects:

3. I did not cast on for this one yet, but my sister has asked me for a pair of socks for quite a while.  The other weekend, we chose the yarn and pattern. Here is the colorway:

I can't wait to cast on. I'm debating whether I should finish the two projects above before or at least finish one or knit all three projects at the same time :)

FO: Plain Vanilla Socks

Summer is still here, in September... I love it!

And it allowed me to finish these socks and show them before fall comes.  These are the Plain Vanilla Socks in the not so plain Watermelon colorway:

What a simple pattern. Almost too simple!  Perfect for this fun yarn!  I've always wanted to knit socks in that colorway from Biscotte & cie.

It was fun to take pictures in the grass. We've had such a beautiful summer.

FO: Gespeg

Hello everyone! I just wanted to drop by with an FO I finished in February.  It has been a while since I posted. Some of you have sent me emails to know how we are doing.  Thank you so much!  

 

My little girl has been with the cold most of winter. She's very brave. I've returned to work in early January. Work and the routine keeps me busy.  This is great!  My sweet little girl makes me so happy!

 

Since my bedtime has already passed, I will go directly to the point.  Here is the Gespeg hat from Ariane Caron-Lacoste.  She has beautiful patterns!

 

This hat was knit for my friend Mélanie who is the owner of the Alpagas de la Petite-Côte.  Of course, the hat is knitted with alpaca yarn that they produce.  It is such a warm and soft hat.  I have enough yarn to knit one for myself for... next winter now!

 

It was the perfect pattern for someone who does not have as much knitting time as she used to :)
